JOB SUMMARY: Assistant Controller assists the Controller in recording various transactions to prepare monthly financial statements for the Company's subsidiaries. The Assistant Controller performs account reconciliations and prepares adjusting journal entries. Additionally, the Assistant Controller assists the Controller with the Company's financial audit. The Assistant Controller is responsible for making recommendations to the Controller regarding practices and procedures. Also responsible for ensuring deadlines are met in a timely fashion.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

� Prepares monthly financial statements

� Assists the Benefits Accounting Manager in accounting for the transactions of the Companys benefit plans

� Performs bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations

� Work with vendors relating to our various accounts with the objective of ensuring that each account is processing smoothly, and that when issues arise they are resolved quickly and efficiently

� Assist other departments by researching discrepancies and provide timely feedback

� Prepare and file various tax compliance returns for sales, use, and other

� Ensure that all reporting deadlines are met

� Provides training to new and existing staff, as needed

� Perform other tasks as needed

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

Skills: Critical thinking, active listening, complex problem solving, coordination & instruction, judgment & decision making, monitoring and quality control analysis. Knowledge: Computers & electronics, customer & personal service, telecommunications, and education & training. Abilities: Oral/written comprehension/expression, problem sensitivity, deductive & inductive reasoning, and information ordering.

 

Required Experience:

� BA/BS in Accounting or Finance preferred

� Must have a minimum of five (5) years accounting experience

� Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint (particularly excel)

� Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts. To receive and respond to instructions/assignments, must be able to read, write and speak English.

� Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

� Knowledge of SL Dynamics and Sage 200 experience preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is performed within a normal office environment involving occasional reaching, stretching, bending and moving about.
