Overview

Bowhead seeks a Public Relations Specialist Junior with a focus on internal and external communications to join NAVAIR Command Communications Department at NAS Patuxent River, MD.

 

 

Responsibilities

The Public Relations Specialist Junior supports internal and external communication requirements and provides content for communications messaging. 

 

Essential functions will include:

  • Create and edit articles, news releases, fact sheets, talking points, digital news pieces, message maps and other written content to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance understanding of the command, its workforce, and mission
  • Conduct research to respond to organization and media queries and pass information to federal public affairs officer and others
  • Work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team to effectively promote and field digital skills and transformation
  • Help leadership communicate effectively with the organization’s nationwide workforce and general public
  • Help maintain the organization’s corporate image and identity
  • Draft speeches, talking points and presentations for the organization’s leadership and subject matter experts
  • Evaluate marketing programs to determine whether they are compatible with organization’s public relations efforts

 

Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree in communication, journalism, or a related writing-intensive field
  • 0 - 3 years experience as a communications professional
  • Must be an expert in Associated Press (AP) Style writing
  • Flexible, persistent self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Prior experience supporting DoD or government agency a plus
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office suite skills - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Office 365 a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment, with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

  

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

 

Physical Demands:  Office Environment - - The environmental conditions consist of computer stations and desks with adequate and adjustable lighting.  Chairs are designed to fit the various individuals and the tasks being performed. Ergonomic evaluations are completed as needed, to provide up to date modifications to all work stations.
