UMIAQ Environmental provides a comprehensive suite of environmental consulting services. Our staff has decades of combined experience working in locations throughout Alaska. We offer federal and state permitting services, environmental assessments (EAs), emergency response plans, and a number of additional services that complement natural resource exploration activities. UMIAQ Environmental also conducts baseline environmental studies, Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, the implementation and management of environmental sampling (e.g., soil, surface water, groundwater, soil gas, indoor/outdoor air, etc.), and remediation of contaminated sites and management of hazardous waste.

UMIAQ Environmental approaches projects by evaluating the project life cycle versus isolated scopes and tasks. This holistic approach provides clients with logistical project input and opportunities to endeavor a cost-effective and synchronistic project life cycle. This creates a trusting contractor-to-client relationship and opportunity to complete the project that meets or exceeds the client’s expectations.

This position is a full time position located in Anchorage, Alaska.

The Environmental Scientist’s goal is to assist in preparation of proposals and work plans, develop permit packages, assists in research, support development of NEPA documents, and support projects within UMIAQ Environmental.


Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • The position includes a variety of regulatory permitting requirements, project development challenges, and a variety of clients and stakeholders. The individual must be flexible and capable of adapting to changing timelines.
  • Respond to client comments during review and finalization of the plans.
  • Assist the PM and the Project Staff with associated day-to-day project management and contractual responsibilities.
  • Report writing.
  • Permit development
  • NEPA related activities
  • Proposal development.
  • Prepare cost estimates.

Other duties as assigned.


  • It is essential that the Environmental Scientist has the ability to work well with people, and has demonstrated strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Extensive software skills are required, as well as Internet research abilities.
  • Planning, organizing, and prioritizing work load are primary duties.

Authorized Driver Requirement:  Employee must have a valid driver’s license and three (3) year clean driving record. Employee must follow all Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.
