Overview

Indoor Range Tech (ARL-2023-19002-F)

Bowhead is seeking and Engineering Technician to support an indoor ballistic range at the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) on Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.

Responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities

Performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations. Follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments; technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may also be reviewed in progress. Performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:
Follows specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts; may service or repair simple instruments or equipment.
Conducts a variety of instrumented experiments using established methods as tasked by government facility manager. Prepares test specimens, adjusts and operates equipment, and records test data, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.
Conducts experiments which may require minor modifications in test setup or procedure.
Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving the reduction of instrumentation data that documents the results of interior ballistic experiments; high speed imagery manipulation, etc.
Extracts engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources; processes the data following well-defined methods including elementary algebra and geometry; presents the data in prescribed form.
Checks drawings provided by engineers and scientists to determine the adequacy of the drawings for target construction and successful completion of the associated test.
Operates standard test equipment; oscilloscopes, x-rays, high speed and still cameras, digitizers, etc.
Installs and maintains transducers and equipment for use in measurement of pressure, velocity, force, displacement and other ballistic measurements.
Creates or modifies test items and fixtures using lathes, milling machines, drills, and other standard machine shop equipment.
Troubleshoots and corrects equipment malfunctions.
Passes all required training deemed necessary by the facility manager and is familiar with all sites and SOPs for every site at the facility.
Helps train lower level personnel.
Becomes a Certified Ammo Handler.
Performs maintenance/upkeep (sweeping, general organization and housekeeping) of facility when necessary; modifies facility as required for specific projects.

Qualifications

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Must be or have the ability to become a certified small and medium caliber loader-gunner (Gunner Category G-II).
Experience reviewing and working with various engineering drawings.
Basic math skills as related to job functions, including elementary algebra and geometry.
Experience operating lathes, milling machines, drills, and other standard machine shop equipment.
Basic to intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills.
Must maintain at all times:
- Secret security clearance
- Certification to operate Bowhead and Government vehicles.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
