Overview

Range Technician (ARL-2023-19331-F):

 

Bowhead is seeking a range technician to support the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) on Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG).  

Responsibilities

 

  • Assembles or installs equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting.
  • Performs moderately complex tasks or tests, operates and adjusts test equipment; records test data.
  • Gathers and maintains specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performs computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plots data and draws simple curves and graphs.
  • Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation.
  • Supports tests related to interaction of various armors with a wide variety of foreign and U.S. explosive warheads both experimental and fielded.
  • Assists in set up and preparation for studies of shaped charge jets and the interaction of shaped charge jets with various armor and appliqué on ¼ scale and full-scale reactive and passive armors.
  • Assists in target assembly/disassembly and set up as needed.
  • Operates equipment including, but not limited to forklifts, skid loader, all-terrain vehicle, garden tractor, power and hand tools for metal and woodwork for construction and modification of target stands and associated testing hardware.

Qualifications

 

  • Possess a High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Be proficient in use and understanding basic measuring devices (tape measures, scales, micrometers).
  • Possess basic carpentry skills/use of hand and power tools.
  • Be willing to work around energetic materials (propellants & high explosives).
  • Complete all required ARL and Bowhead training (safety, security, hazardous material, equipment, etc.), certifications, and medical exams according to established deadlines.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Possess basic level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts and possess strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
