Overview

Vessel Master (EPA-203-19585):

 

Bowhead seeks to network with Vessel Masters for an upcoming effort supporting the The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO). If awarded, we will support this program by operating and maintaining a research vessel and work boat to obtain sediment and water samples in the Great Lake basin in support of water quality monitoring agreements between the United States and Canada.

Responsibilities

The Vessel Master is responsible for operating and maintaining the vessels to enable the vessels to safely and efficiently, obtain Great Lakes samples.

 

  • Operate and maintain up to 180' vessels in direct support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO)
  • Conduct, assist and supervise the preventative, corrective, predictive maintenance and general repairs or modifications to suit mission requirements.
  • Shall have extensive experience, knowledge, and confident skills as a vessel operator and deckhand and be able to operate in close proximity to other craft and waterborne targets and structures.
  • Shall be proficient in the operation of radar, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), VHF Communication systems.
  • Proficient at following instructions for planned maritime operations and understanding military communications.

Qualifications

  • The minimum licensing requirements for the Master is a valid USCG license of Master of Great Lakes and inland self-propelled vessels UNLIMITED GRT with licensing or MMC officer endorsement.
  • Experience serving as a Master onboard research vessels is desirable.
  • Prior Military experience is a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

 

 

 Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

 

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check.  Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required.  Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
