Overview

Cook  (EPA-2023-19593):

 

Bowhead seeks to network with a Cook  for an upcoming effort supporting the The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO). If awarded, we will support this program by operating and maintaining a research vessel and work boat to obtain sediment and water samples in the Great Lake basin in support of water quality monitoring agreements between the United States and Canada.

Responsibilities

The Cook is responsible for the planning and preparing a varied, nutritious meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner adherence to the food safety and sanitation policies within the galley. The Cook acquires and manages provisions for the ship, actively supports acquisition, delivery and loading of provisions, controls cost of provisions, maintains an inventory of provisions, rotates stock items to prevent spoilage, and keeps accurate records of expenditures and receipts. The Cook shall also be familiar with and strictly observe all shipboard safety management procedures and applicable regulations pertaining to garbage disposal from the galley.

Qualifications

  • The Cook is required to be knowledgeable of basic food chemistry, storage and preparation and able to read and understand written food labels printed in English.
  • Serv Safe certification desired
  • Prior Military experience is a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

 

 

 Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

 

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check.  Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required.  Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
