Overview

Steward (EPA-2023-19594):

 

Bowhead seeks to network with a Steward for an upcoming effort supporting the The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO). If awarded, we will support this program by operating and maintaining a research vessel and work boat to obtain sediment and water samples in the Great Lake basin in support of water quality monitoring agreements between the United States and Canada.

Responsibilities

The Steward assists the Cook with cleaning the galley and its equipment and with food preparation for meals, as needed, or as directed by the Cook to include storage of leftovers after each meal. When assisting the Cook with food preparation, the Steward shall comply with the sanitary requirements for handling food. In addition, the Steward accompanies the cook when shopping for provisions, and transports, stows and inventories the provisions as required. The Steward is responsible for the preparation, cleaning and maintaining of the ship’s cabins. The Steward ensures the facilities are sanitary; as well as maintaining and stocking bed linens, blankets, and towels. The Steward cleans and maintains the laundry room, galley, and lounge.

Qualifications

  • Serv Safe Certification desired
  • Prior Military experience is a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

  

 Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

 

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check.  Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required.  Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
