UIC Commercial Services (UIC DPB) is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska and a subsidiary of Ukpeagvik Iñupiat Corporation, the Alaska Native Village Corporation of Barrow, Alaska. UIC DPB is a vertically integrated team of companies providing a full spectrum of professional services and construction disciplines within our Commercial Services Division. Our family of companies specializes in professional services and remote construction in arctic and subarctic Alaska and across the country.

On-Call Receptionist Summary: Operate telephone switchboard to answer, screen, and forward calls, providing information, and taking messages. Receptionist will provide general office support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks. The receptionist will be responsible for, mail distribution, flow of correspondence, requisition of supplies, as well as additional clerical duties.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Greets persons entering establishment, determine nature and purpose of visit, and directs or escorts them to specific location
  • Takes and retrieves messages for various personnel.
  • Provides callers with information such as company address, directions, to the company location, company fax numbers, company website, and other related information.
  • Receives, sorts, and forwards incoming mail. Maintains and routes publications.
  • Coordinates the pick-up and delivery of express mail services (Fed Ex, UPS, etc).
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, stocking, and distribution of office supplies.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction given on assignments.
  • Reliability a must.
  • May also assist with other related clerical duties such as photocopying, faxing, and filing, shredding. Required Experience:
  • 6 months – 1 year of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; possess exceptional interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Able to work collectively with a group.

Physical Demands:

  • The Receptionist will have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain.
  • The Receptionist may also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions.
  • Read and interpret documents and information.
  • Use oral communication skills; interact with the general public and other staff in the office.

Work Environment Summary:

  • The employee works under typical office conditions, and the noise level is moderately quiet.
