Overview

Bowhead seeks a Technical Writer to provide support to the Navy’s Weapons Systems Munitions Integration and Hypersonics division.

 

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating high-quality technical documentation, user manuals, guides, and other written materials to support the use and understanding of complex technical products and services. The Technical Writer works closely with engineering teams to gather information and translate technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.

 

 

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, reference guides, release notes, and online help, for complex technical products and services
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts, to gather information and understand complex technical concepts, and translate them into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation
  • Conduct thorough research to gather and verify technical information, ensuring accuracy and reliability of the documentation
  • Edit, proofread, and revise documentation to ensure consistency, clarity, accuracy, and adherence to documentation standards and style guides
  • Create and maintain documentation templates, standards, and style guides to ensure consistency and quality across all documentation
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technical writers, reviewing their work and providing feedback to ensure quality and adherence to documentation standards
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather feedback on documentation and incorporate changes as needed to improve usability and effectiveness
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies to continuously improve documentation processes and standards

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in proof reading, editing and formatting of technical documentation ensuring it is accurate, complete, and meets editorial and Government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics,  overage, format, and style. This experience includes working with document authors in the drafting, review, and publication of technical documentation and reviews all project documentation for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and
    formatting.
  • Advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. Candidates with an active Secret clearance are preferred. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
