Overview

SCA TECHNICAL WRITER (F3900 2024-20507):

 

Bowhead seeks a Technical Writer to join our team in supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane Division.  The Technical Writer will support, prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documentation that incorporates information and data from Program Office, customer, end user, project leads, SMEs, and ISEAs.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

  • Revises or writes material that is mostly standardized for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.

  • Receives assignments and technical information from a supervisor or senior writer, may be provided notes or manuals containing operating procedures and details, and may observe production, developmental or experimental activities to expand or verify the provided operating proceduresand details.
  • Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology. 
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions, may select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Assist in laying out material for publications, and arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of materials.
  • May draft speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases, or specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree and five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in proof reading, editing and formatting of technical documentation ensuring it is accurate, complete, and meets editorial and Government specifications.
  • Master's Degree in any feild preferred. Background with technical writing or Ordnance and Non-Ordnance related Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • A self-starter who is comfortable working individually, as well as being a team player who understands the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and open communication
  • Strong familiarity of military supply chain processes and product life-cycle management.
  • Expert level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. Applicants who currently hold a Secret clearance are strongly encouraged to apply.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
