Overview

Telecommunications Mechanic I (MCCONBTS-2024-20592)

 

Bowhead seeks to network with Telecommunications Mechanic for a potential upcoming effort. The Telecommunications Mechanic I must have the knowledge, skills, and experience to support the inside/outside cable plant infrastructure including new installations, troubleshooting, upgrades and maintenance to ensure telecommunications are fully operational. 

Responsibilities

The Telecommunications Mechanic I performs a variety of inside and/or outside plant tasks and responsibilities.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Following industry standards and in coordination with the Government and other technicians, maintains voice and data networks by running, pulling, and terminating cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and building ironwork and ladder racks, establishing connections and integrations.
  • Documents network by labeling equipment and cables.
  • Maintains, installs, de-installs, moves, removes, and test copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cable.
  • Installs communication closet equipment such as racks, cable trays, conduit, and cables.
  • Inspects and performances routine maintenance in manholes, such as draining water. Assists with repair, securing, and replacement of all cable-related defects within manholes.
  • Inspects telephone poles, pedestals, handholes, and other outside plant infrastructure. Reports deficiencies and makes repairs as necessary or escalates as needed.
  • Following industry standards and in coordination with the Government and other technicians, maintains voice and data networks by running, pulling, and terminating cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and building ironwork and ladder racks, establishing connections and integrations.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions.
  • Maintains safe work environment and conditions by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support contract requirements.
  • Provides on-the-job training and guidance, as needed, to Install & Repair Technicians

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience performing equipment troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance for structured cabling systems.
  • Experience splicing aerial cable from bucket lift, aerial lift and/or other hoist mechanism is a plus.
  • Preference given to candidate with one or more years’ experience installing, splicing and servicing Cat 5, 5e, 6 and fiber optics.
  • Must be fluent in English and able to read, write and follow instructions (including diagrams, flow charts and pictures).
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
