Overview

Umiaq Design is seeking a registered civil engineer that is ready to take on challenging projects in both rural and urban Alaska. With the company's multiple recent large project awards and on-going support services, the successful applicant can expect to work both independently and as part of larger project teams. Recent project awards include large project urban site development, rural road design, water distribution & wastewater collection system design, and landfill development/closure design and some very interesting, one-of-a-kind, projects that only happen in Alaska.

Responsibilities

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Civil Engineer will work under the oversight of a Senior Civil Engineer, earning more responsibility as they demonstrate their ability to handle various roles in planning, design and construction administration of projects. On many projects, the Project Civil Engineer will conduct field investigations, coordinate with Clients and project stakeholders, prepare all phases of the design/construction documents, assist with bidding and provide construction administration assistance and project closeout. Work may include directing drafting and technical support personnel, in addition to working with other in-house, and sub-contracted, disciplines.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS:

The successful applicant must have a solid knowledge of basic civil engineering design, preparation of construction documents and traditional construction methods. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Four, or more, years of experience working as a Civil Engineer in a design related role, and registered as a Professional Civil Engineer (or Environmental Engineer) in Alaska. If registered in a different state, must show ability to get reciprocity in a reasonable amount of time. Experience with water and sewer planning and design preferred, but not required. AutoCAD drafting experience is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The successful applicant must be able to travel to remote locations via aircraft, boats, snow machines, 4-wheelers and other off-road vehicles. Once on-site, a Project Engineer must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and walk around unimproved sites, or sites under construction.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work may require travel to remote parts of Alaska throughout the year. As a result, the Project Civil Engineer must be able to work in a wide range of temperatures (including extreme temperatures down to -50 degrees F).
