Bowhead is seeking a Subject Matter Specialist to join our PM Fires Contract in Stafford, VA. The Subject Matter Specialist will be responsible for ammunition program planning and scheduling, conducting ammunition inventory and stockpile management, providing transition support for Marine Corps ammunition to be procured through the Department of Defense (DOD) Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition (SMCA), managing and overseeing the Marine Corps Explosives Safety Management Program (ESMP), conducting ammunition quality assurance, and performing the full range of acquisition functions for ammunition.


  • Support Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), Program Manager for Ammunition (PM AMMO), in its responsibility areas of general mission management, system safety, acquisition planning, ammunition safety, financial stewardship, logistics support, and data management. Such as Mission Management Support, Acquisition Planning Support,System Safety Support, Safety Data and Technical Data Package support, Ammunition Supply Chain Accountability Support, Data Management Support, Production Quality Assurance (QA) Support, Technology Transition & Industrial Base Support, Environmental and Explosive Safety Support
  • Provides expert support, analysis, research, and advice into exceptionally complex problems, and processes relating to the subject matter 
  • Serves as technical expert on executive-level project teams providing technical direction, interpretation, and alternatives.
  • Coordinates with contract management and Government personnel to ensure the problems have been properly defined and the solutions satisfy customer needs
  • Generates recommendations in the form of technical briefings, reports, and other major documents provided to senior level client personnel
  • Writes and updates project documentation including system procedures, presentations, and training materials


  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • 12 Years of relavent experience
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds 
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically  

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintian a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
