Rockford Corporation is an Alaskan Native Owned 8(a) General and Industrial Mechanical Contractor based in Anchorage, Alaska. We are also a Small Business Administration (SBA) certified Small Disadvantaged Business. In our 55-year history Rockford has predominantly performed work on government fuel, tank, and utility projects. Rockford Corporation specializes in the construction and repair of steel tanks, fueling and utility systems for the military. It has successfully completed fuel and utility-related construction projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Naval Facilities Engineering Command and U.S. Coast Guard.

The Construction Project Engineer works under the supervision of the project superintendent or project manager. 

 

Summary:

Support construction activities by implementing the following:  planning, organizing and implementing those management duties, project controls systems, engineering interface, subcontract and materials management, purchasing and scheduling. Responsible for portions of project administration.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure Contract Document Logs are established and maintained
  • Ensure status reports on RFIs, Submittals and other Documents are prepared and presented
  • Write effective scopes of work for bid packages
  • Effectively issue Request for Quotations and follow up with Trade Contractors
  • Timely document field quality activities
  • Prepare change management reports, estimates and other cost report documents
  • Establish and maintain the project quality files and documentation systems
  • Continually promote organizational change initiatives, suggests new ideas, and adapt to work within new structures and processes
  • Continually seek to understand customer goals and needs and act with a sense of urgency in meeting customer needs and demonstrating value
  • Develop industry relationships and expand professional networks that have potential to generate opportunities for Rockford Corporation.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by company Code of Conduct on a daily basis.
  • Ability to create and maintain construction schedules with critical path methods
  • As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening and have a valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance required.
  • Must be able to obtain access to Federal Installations.

 

 

Knowledge and Critical Skill/Expertise:

  • Requires a working knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as some familiarity with industry practices.
  • Familiarity with other PC software packages typically associated with engineering and construction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, as well as with customers and vendors.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to efficiently analyze and organize significant amounts of information regarding plan layouts, material deliveries and jobsite productivities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Projects scheduling software (Primavera Suretrack is also beneficial)
  • Experience with Timberline Project Management software preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task in fast paced environment.
  • Familiar with OSHA construction standards and common safety practices.
  • Familiar with EM385-1-1 construction standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Must have excellent PC skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects and Experience with Primavera
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering, or Construction Management related degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of work experience working for a General Contractor successfully supporting similar key responsibilities meeting and exceeding performance expectations.
  • Knowledgeable of safety and relevant OSHA requirements and regulations.
  • Knowledge of web based project management software tools for managing and tracking projects and tasks.

Physical Demands:

  • Dexterity and good motor skills.
  • Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs.
  • Passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while performing the duties of this job.

Environmental Conditions:

  • The noise in these work environments is occasionally moderate to very loud.
  • Ability to withstand extreme temperatures (cold and hot).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.
  • The wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment mitigates risks associated with these conditions and is mandatory.

If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
