Overview

TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (ERDC):

 

Bowhead seeks a Technical Assistant to support the Engineering Research & Development Center effort location in Lewisville, TX. The Technical Assistant will provide daily care for plant and insect cultures in the Lewisville Aquatic Ecosystem Research Facility (LAERF) greenhouses, Chamber Room, Biological Control Rearing Room, and Mesolab Facility.

Responsibilities

  • Water quality (e.g., dissolved oxygen, pH, and ammonia) and environmental parameters (e.g., temperature, solar radiation) will be measured in each location based on specific needs of the culture.
  • The needs for each culture will be provided by the Government and our Technical Assistant will keep a log detailing the care provided.
  • Coordinate the daily care and activities of the facility when unable to directly provide support (i.e. on PTO or collecting field samples), and will alternate with team members to ensure daily care of cultures to include holidays and weekends.
  • Conduct experimental procedures in a laboratory or greenhouse setting (e.g., plant growth, competition, herbivory, photosynthesis, and their responses to environmental variation) and operate associated equipment (e.g., Percival environmental growth chambers, LI-COR photosynthesis system, Peltier chill-plate) required to complete studies.
  • Process field-collected or experimentally generated samples and work on laboratory and greenhouse tasks, such as organization, cleaning, weeding and other pest control, data collection, transcribing and printing of labels and datasheets, and other project specific laboratory tasks.
  • Work independently and with team members to accomplish research objectives.

Qualifications

  • BA/S in Computer Science or related field and an additional two to five (2-5) years of professional experience is highly preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

 

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Public Trust clearance at this location.
