Engineering Technician III B

 

Bowhead seeks an Engineering Technician III B. This position is located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Responsibilities

 

  • Works independently under supervision of senior technician(s).
  • Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials which are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts. Develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications.  Uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.
  • Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions.
  • Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation. Using mathematic and engineering principles along with software tools (e.g., excel, solidworks), conducts analyses of the data as directed.
  • With very limited guidance, assists the lead project technician during all aspects of experiment execution, to include providing guidance and direction to all support personnel at experimental facilities, ensuring proper experimental instrumentation and methodologies are used, and collecting and tracking of data and hardware.
  • Assists in hooking up and setting up electronic data recording devices and equipment.
  • Uses engineering knowledge to design projectile components, fixtures, and miscellaneous hardware and then generates engineering drawings suitable for the fabrication process.
  • Performs general housekeeping (e.g., post shot clean-up, facility upkeep, grass cutting, weed eating).
  • Assists in organizing and helping manage inventories and keeping facility neat.
  • Follows all appropriate safety, security, and experimental SOPs/IOPs to conduct all assigned tasks
  • Successfully completes all required Safety Training (Ammo, Hazmat, Drivers, etc).
  • Certified Depleted Uranium (DU) worker, to include respirator qualified and radiation safety worker.
  • Handles explosive materials in accordance with ARL policies and procedures as a certified Ammunition and Explosives Handler.
  • Acts as Alternate Magazine Manager.
  • Performs target assembly and disassembly.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or completion of a trade school program
  • Minimum five years of professional experience with three years directly related to this position
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint (or similar CAD)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Mechanical aptitude to construct components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of manufacturing methods to interface with machine, wood, and welding shops to fabricate experimental items (e.g., armor targets, fixtures, and projectiles).
  • Proficiency building solid models and converting engineering drawings suitable for fabrication processes.
  • Basic electrical skills.
  • Basic carpentry skills, some power tool experience.
  • Proficiency with algebra, geometry, trigonometry and basic engineering principles (i.e., statics, dynamics, strength of materials).

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must cbe able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds repetitively.
  • Must be able to engage in prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, or stooping.
  • Technician will regularly be exposed to loud noise.
  • Technician may perform some work outdoors and at heights.
  • Technician will perform work occasionally with lasers and high voltage.
  • Technician will be exposed to fuels, lubricants, and exhaust.
