Overview

Telecommunications Mechanic II (FRCAFB-2025-22121): 

 

Bowhead seeks to network with a Telecommunications Mechanic II for an upcoming proposal effort to support BTS projects at Fairchild AFB. This upcoming contract will ensure seamless execution and rapid response for telecommunications support, tailored to meet and exceed customer requirements.

 

Responsibilities

Job dutes include but are not limited to:

 

  • Serve as the primary On-Site Manager responsible for overseeing telecommunications operations at Fairchild AFB.
  • Manage and lead the telecommunications team, ensuring compliance with PWS requirements.
  • Maintain and operate telephony switch systems, E-911, and voicemail systems.
  • Conduct scheduled Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on cables, terminals, and distribution systems.
  • Ensure compliance with CAIRS database updates, equipment tracking, and outage reporting.
  • Monitor system performance, provide technical recommendations, and submit work order requests.
  • Handle cable staking and marking, connect/disconnect services, and siren system maintenance.
  • Coordinate and schedule mission-critical maintenance, upgrades, and new installations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for COR and government representatives.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate record of installations, outages, repairs, and work orders.
  • Ensure compliance with military and DoD security, safety, and operational standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have extensive experience in telecommunication systems operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Proficiency in maintaining Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of ANSI, TIA, EIA Standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), OSHA regulations, and applicable DoD/USAF policies.
  • Familiarity with Avaya telephony switch systems, E-911, and voicemail systems.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools for cable plant inspections, fault detection, and preventive maintenance inspections (PMI).
  • Experience in structured cabling, fiber optics, and distribution systems, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Leadership and administrative experience to manage telecommunications personnel and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Ability to track and document maintenance activities, develop Maintenance Support Plans (MSP), and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with the 92d Communications Squadron (92 CS) and Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
  • DoDM 8140.03 cybersecurity workforce certification (for personnel administering or maintaining servers).
  • Experience in conducting mission-critical technology changes, upgrades, and design reviews.
  • Ability to train government personnel monthly on telecommunications systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

  

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Public Trust level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Public Trust clearance at this location.
