Overview

Bowhead is seeking a Network Installation Support Engineer to be responsible for surveying electronic classrooms (ECR), installing network cables, moving equipment for our Navy customers.

 

The Network Installation Support Engineer will be responsible for installing network cabling, including CAT6 and underground fiber optic cables, across various Government facilities. This role includes site surveys, the coordination of cable installation efforts, and adherence to safety and compliance standards. The Network Installation Support Technician will also assist with setting up network racks, testing cable performance, and supporting Government Electronic Classroom (ECR) infrastructure upgrades.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating, overseeing, and accomplishing movement/installation of network cables to include CAT6 and some fiber,
• Communicate with the local Base Communications Office (BCO) or applicable organization, to determine if there is existing available fiber, minimum 4 Strands, which Navy can utilize for any communications path.
• Survey, perform/supervise entry of existing hand holes and/or manholes for rodding and installation of mule tape through existing underground pathways for cable listed in requirement details,
• Identify any new/additional pathways required to complete this project,
• Identify needed supplies to conduct the install of network infrastructure,
• Determine if any facility modifications are required for each work site,
• Identify/validate the location of new fiber distribution panel in each building, i.e. existing equipment cabinet or new equipment cabinet required,
• Work with base Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and appropriate parties (utilities) to schedule, and coordinate access to manholes and pathways (e.g. road closures that may be needed), to perform surveys, and to ensure proposed work meets installation requirements and agreements.
• Coordinating, overseeing, and accomplishing movement/installation of required furniture, equipment, cables, computer systems, and associated facilities activities,
• Conducting site surveys at various CONUS military installations to gather necessary data for completing ECR upgrades and installation of equipment,
• Assisting in preparing reports and compliance documentation,
• Maintaining cleanliness and safety on the job site,
• Providing support and direction to technician helpers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering is preferred, or additional experience in place of a degree,
• Ability to attain a Government Contractor Access Card (CAC),
• Previous military active or reserve duty, or retired military is preferred,
• At least four (4) years of experience in network cabling installation, facilities maintenance, or a similar role,
• Experience working with Microsoft Office and technical documentation tools (e.g., Visio preferred),
• Experience with assembling furniture and computer equipment,
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills,
• Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.

 

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 30 pounds, kneeling, standing and walking, routinely sitting and constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, and must be able to work under deadlines. Must be able to travel 70-80 percent of the time.

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain or and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. Candidates with an existing security clearance are preferred. US Citizenship is a requirement for a Secret clearance.

 

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
