UMIAQ Environmental is seeking a Site Safety and Health Coordinator to oversee and implement safety programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and industry best practices. This position plays a critical role in supporting environmental science projects by ensuring the health and safety of all personnel involved in site assessments, remediation, and compliance monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety and health programs for environmental projects, including hazardous waste site assessments, spill response, remediation, and environmental monitoring.
• Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and site inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state-specific environmental regulations.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and contaminated waste.
• Train employees on safety procedures, hazard communication, and emergency response protocols specific to environmental projects.
• Investigate accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate safety records, including safety data sheets (SDS), exposure monitoring, and training documentation.
• Act as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters on environmental project sites, coordinating with regulatory agencies as necessary.
• Support the development of site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for projects involving environmental remediation, soil and groundwater sampling, and air quality monitoring.
• Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions focused on environmental hazard awareness.

·         Collaborate with project managers, field personnel, and subcontractors to ensure a culture of safety on all environmental projects.

·         This position requires critical thinking and analysis; frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting and carrying 30+ pounds; working in all weather conditions; field visits per project needs; ability to travel (drive or fly) to and from job sites in Alaska

Environmental Science Project Experience (Preferred):

• Experience with hazardous waste site investigations, environmental remediation, and spill response.
• Knowledge of contaminated site cleanup protocols, soil and groundwater sampling, and air monitoring.
• Familiarity with environmental compliance programs (EPA, RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, and Clean Water Act regulations).
• Understanding of permitting processes, wetland delineations, and ecological risk assessments.
• Exposure to environmental impact assessments, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), and waste management procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (preferred).
• More than 3 years of experience in site safety for environmental science projects, construction, or industrial settings.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and hazardous waste handling regulations.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to enforce safety protocols in dynamic environments.
• Certifications such as OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 40, CHST, CSP, or equivalent (preferred).

First Aid/CPR certification (preferred or required).
