Overview

 Staff Writer (External):

Bowhead is seeking an External Staff Writer for an upcoming effort located at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. The External Staff Writer will prepare statements, press releases, long-form articles, public affairs guidance, communication plans, briefing cards and like material as required and in accordance with Navy and Associated Press Style guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Authors feature and straight news writing products and provides editorial support directed to a wide range of audiences; including Members of Congress, Department of Defense (DOD), industry stakeholders and the general public.
  • Products include but are not limited to: reports, fact sheets, press releases, website or social media and brochures.
  • Consults with appropriate subject matter experts to ensure information is presented accurately.

 

Bowhead seeks to network with qualified individuals relative to a potential opportunity, which is contingent upon award and not currently funded.  Incumbent employees are encouraged to respond. No solicitations or third-party applications will be accepted.

Qualifications

  • At least four (4) years of experience and a baccalaureate in English, or Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of civilian or military experience in corporate communications.
  • Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in English or Communications or other related field.
  • Experience to write and edit news copy (articles, social media posts, et cetera) according to Navy and Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Experience to synthesize complex ideas and initiatives into easily understood communications for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in managing small and largescale projects that contribute to a larger strategic communications plan.
  • Experience to manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail; experience to work effectively with NAVSEA's senior leaders in a high profile and demanding office.
  • Experience with NAVSEA, Congress, the Navy and Department of Defense.

 

Target salary is $85,000/year to $120,000/year commensurate with experience.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
