ELECTRONIC SECURITY SYSTEMS ENGINEER (MCESS) 

 

Bowhead is seeking an Electronic Security System (ESS) Engineer to join our team in support of our Marine Corps Electronics Security Systems contract in Charleston, SC. The Security Systems Engineer candidate will be assigned to multiple Mission-Critical Facility Design and Construction projects for our Navy Customer as the Systems Engineer for Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems supporting the Integrated Project Team. The prefered candidates will have the ability to travel up to 25%, both CONUS and OCONUS.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

  • Develops and maintains documentation for Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Performs quarterly patch updates to Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems, and performs testing of systems after patching.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of documentation for Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Provides remote support to on-site personnel with issues encountered on deployed Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Provides remote support of Automated Access Control System and Intrusion Detection System installation projects.
  • Reviews performance work statements and cost estimates for Automated Access Control System and Intrusion Detection System installation contracts on a tri-annual basis.
  • Research, test, and implement new capabilities for Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Maintain and update Automated Access Control System and Intrusion Detection System equipment listed on the Integrated Product Team’s Standard Equipment List.
  • Assists in the maintenance and installation of equipment in the Integrated Product Team’s lab.
  • Researched and specifies computing hardware for Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems.
  • Regularly communicate with vendors of Automated Access Control Systems and Intrusion Detection Systems to stay up to date on new products and product changes.
  • Conducts surveys and investigations at project sites to secure necessary data prior to initiating design work.
  • Capture customer requirements and transfer those into ESS design. Provide technical responses to client request for information.
  • Work with Network Engineering team to develop network topologies.
  • Work with CAD Developers to modify, update, and prepare redline and As-Built drawing sets.
  • Serves as an engineering consultant and technical expert on mission-critical infrastructure, systems, and equipment.
  • Specifies functional requirements, designs and tests components, analyzes designs, and integrates components.
  • Evaluates overall design effectiveness, cost, reliability.
  • Designs, analyzes, configures, tests and troubleshoots systems, as well as providing project engineering/program management support, development and evaluation support and engineering/life cycle support of a complex nature in a narrow area of specification.
  • Provides Project Engineers with design recommendations.
  • Reviews and provides input on IPT technical processes, documentation, and templates, as needed.
  • Assists IPT Technical Lead in the development of the Five-Year Technical Plan.
  • Assists Project Engineers with design reviews, as needed.
  • Provides internal and external training to USMC ESS personnel and installation contractors on new technologies.
  • Serves as a member of the IPT Configuration Control Board (CCB).

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience, including experience with designing and implementing solutions for IDS, AACS
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering / relevant technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Working knowledge and / or formal training with UL 2050 and ICD 705 compliance preferred. (Example: UL 2050 Designing for Compliance certification course)
  • Working knowledge of network infrastructure and architecture.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Desired Qualifications:

  •  Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) Programmer preferred.
  • AMAG Symmetry certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server preferred.

Travel Requirements:

  • Active Passport.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • On some occasions, overnight travel may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
