Overview

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (GXP 2025-22986):

 

Bowhead is seeking an Engineering Technician to work at their Crane, Indiana location. The Engineering Technician performs nonroutine acoustic testing and evaluation assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents which are not fully applicable. Such assignments, which are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design or testing problems. May also plan such assignments. Receives technical advice from supervisor or engineer; work is reviewed for technical adequacy (or conformity with instructions). May be assisted by lower level technicians and have frequent contact with professionals and others within the establishment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions will include: 

 

  • Develops or reviews acoustic testing processes or designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering or test data.
  • Applies conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend procedures, designs, and specifications.
  • Conducts electrical and acoustic testing of undersea sensors requiring selection, adaptation, or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records data, measures and records problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level; and analyzes data and prepares test reports
  • Applies techniques outlined by others to limited segments of acoustic testing and evaluation projects; constructs experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducts tests or experiments and redesigns as necessary; and records and evaluates data and reports findings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required in addition to three to five (3-5) years of experience with the above mentioned duties.
  • Prior experience with NSWC Crane Operations is required.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

 

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 to 25 pounds 
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
