Bowhead seeks a Junior Systems Administrator to join our team supporting the Program Office for NSWC Corona, Corona Division in Norco, California. The Systems Administrator will work for the senior systems administrator analyzing complex and unique technical support assignments and lead or collaborate with other system administrators, cybersecurity personnel, and program analysts within an agile environment.
This position is 100% onsite.
• The systems administrator administers and supports daily operational requirements of computer network systems including workstation, file servers, and web servers.
• Installation of hardware, software, systems upgrades, network accounts, network security, and web page design, interface and updates, and local system design documentation.
• Cyber WorkForce (CWF) directives are maintained and up to date with respect to certifications
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and implement network security tools including firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection services.
• Answering questions about installation, operation, configuration, and customization.
• Specific support consists of troubleshooting hardware, software, and network related issues encountered by users.
• Software support includes, but not limited to Windows and Linux/Unix operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and various specialty engineering and scientific development tools.
• Installation of new software releases, system upgrades, evaluation and installation of patches and to resolve software related issues and Information Assurance Vulnerabilities (IAVs).
• Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of the organizational mailbox to ensure that all users receive timely support in response to their requests for assistance.
• Support also includes working with the organizations Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) for achieving system accreditation.
• Maintain data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.
• Perform system administration tasks across Windows and/or Linux platforms, including patching, user access, and security configuration.
• Develop, test, and maintain scripts or small applications to automate system tasks and support operational requirements.
• Support integration of new technologies and tools into classified and unclassified environments.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security compliance.
• Document system configurations, standard operating procedures, and code.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure RMF compliance and implement STIGs.
• Provide Tier II support for escalated service tickets and technical issues.
• Participate in incident response, change control, and configuration management processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in system administration or software programming within a DoD or federal IT environment.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python, or JavaScript).
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and system monitoring tools.
• Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, STIGs, and DoD IA policies.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and basic SDLC practices.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• U.S. Citizenship and Active DoD Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred).
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the minimum Secret level.
