Overview

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Project SME to lead a team of Technical Consultants. In this role, you will provide hands-on leadership, drive operational excellence, and support the strategic execution of high-impact client and internal initiatives. You will also be a key contributor to continuous improvement efforts and operational strategy within your consulting practice. This is a Part-Time On-Call position.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of 8–12 Technical Consultants, providing day-to-day oversight, mentorship, and performance management.
• Prioritize and assign client work and internal projects based on business needs and staff expertise.
• Deliver regular coaching, support career development through individualized plans, and conduct performance reviews and feedback sessions.
• Develop and own key performance metrics (e.g., resource utilization, project delivery KPIs, quality metrics like OEE/RTY where applicable) to monitor and optimize delivery outcomes.
• Champion and lead strategic initiatives aligned with business objectives, including:
o Scaling new service offerings
o Deployment and ramp-up of new client programs
o Leading efforts to improve delivery efficiency and reduce operational costs
• Serve as a member of the Bowhead Leadership Team, contributing to practice growth, team development, and operational strategy.
• Lead or collaborate on firm-wide improvement initiatives across engineering, project delivery, quality, and client engagement functions.
• Partner cross-functionally with technology teams, business development, and delivery leads to ensure seamless client experiences and internal alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Workforce Education and Development, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 8+ years of engineering consulting or technical project delivery experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Proven ability to manage and mentor high-performing technical teams.
• Strong understanding of operational metrics, process improvement, and client delivery models.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Consulting experience in industries such as manufacturing, energy, healthcare, or technology is a plus.

 

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. US Citizenship is a requirement for holding a Secret clearance at this location.

 

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
