Overview

UIC Science is seeking a Media Specialist I to provide videography expertise to capture and utilize raw video footage, broadcast/stream expertise, and to record live events that are relevant to Indigenous communities in Alaska. They will attend training sessions led by a team of professional videographers and streaming experts. They will utilize and operate professional video, audio, and streaming equipment and at times will be responsible for the safe keeping of such equipment. They will provide technical assistance during live streamed events and will support and host virtual events and meetings. This position also requires attendance of regular staff and team meetings, both virtual and in-person.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Partaking in training sessions related to videography and live event streaming.
  • Takingraw footage when necessary and assisting in editing footage.
  • Providing technical assistance during live event conference streaming, presentations, performances, and other events.
  • Providing technical assistance to entities during monthly tri-org meetings.
  • Operating equipment, troubleshooting when necessary, and ensuring safe keeping of equipment.
  • Attending, hosting, and supporting virtual events.
  • Traveling to conferences, meetings, and performances.
  • Take part in virtual RVCC Meetings including RVCC All-Hands Meeting, RVCC Alaska Hub Monthly Meeting, and two RVCC Alaska Hub virtual deliverables work sessions. (5 total regularly scheduled monthly virtual meetings)
  • Meet with RVCC Media Production Group leads for bi-weekly meetings.
  • Take part in in-person Monday morning staff meetings at Ikaagun offices.
  • Complete weekly tasks as identified in weekly Monday morning staff meetings.
  • Lead setting up equipment for RVCC Alaska Hub activities. 
  • Lead the RVCC Alaska Hub Stream Team
  • Travel to Annual All-hands Meeting at Haskell Indian Nations University (April 26) and two trips to rural Alaska (winter/spring).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School GED.
  • Experience with videography and streaming equipment.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Entry-level skills utilizing videography and streaming equipment.
  • Must attend and complete all training sessions.
  • Must be willing to work safely and follow all company policies.
  • Must maintain consistent and punctual attendance to all regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Must provide own transportation to and from worksite.
  • Must work independently with minimal supervision and complete assigned daily tasks.
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Work well within a team setting.
  • Ability to interact with both co-workers and clients in a courteous and professional manner.

Physical Demands:

  • Position is that of a sedentary nature.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds.
    Sitting at a computer for long periods of time.
