Overview

UIC Government Services (UICGS) seeks a Payroll Specialist to join our team in Springfield, VA.

The payroll specialist position is open to both experienced candidates as well as candidates without payroll experience who have a relevant educational background and/or the aptitude for problem solving and working with accounting data. A competitive salary will be offered commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Reports to the Payroll Manager and works under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor.
• Assist in payroll tax registrations and compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations.
• Exposure to multiple payroll disciplines including payroll tax compliance, payroll processing, timekeeping, garnishment processing, audit support, responding to data requests, and other special projects.
• General administrative duties including responding to enquiries from employees, answering phones, researching pay discrepancies, researching tax agency notices, etc.
• Assist with the maintenance, collection, and processing of employee timesheets in Deltek Time & Expense software.
• Assist with payroll processing including verifying payroll data, calculation of payrolls, review of payroll reports, and initiating payments to employees.
• Assist with responding to data requests and inquiries from employees, other departments, and governmental entities.
• Assist with reconciliation of GL accounts related to payroll accounts.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience working in a payroll or accounting department OR a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Knowledge of payroll processes for a multi-state, multi-subsidiary employer, including employment taxes, year-end reporting, and payroll tax compliance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
• Prior experience with payroll software applications such as Deltek Costpoint and ADP SmartCompliance is a plus.
• Union/DBA/SCA payroll experience preferred but not required.
• Although prior payroll experience is not a requirement, previous exposure in a related field and proficiency with the required job duties in other disciplines would be a plus.
• Detail oriented, organized, problem solver with the ability to pivot from a task when necessary.
• Ability to work on a team with the common goal to pay employees accurately and on-time.

 

There are currently no security clearance requirements for this position, however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.

 

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
