Overview

MARKETING SPECIALIST IV (BHMS):

 

Bowhead seeks a Marketing Specialist IV to join our team in Springfield, VA. The Marketing Specialist IV will ensure consistent, strategic, and high-quality communication across all internal and external channels, connecting with key audiences including government agencies and contracting partners, industry peers, employees, corporate leadership, and UIC shareholders in Alaska. The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator and accomplished marketing professional who combines exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to manage complex projects, provide executive-level counsel, and deliver both digital and traditional communications that align with UICGS and Bowhead’s corporate identity and values.

 

This is a temporary position and can be fully remote.  

Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop and implement integrated communications and marketing strategies that promote UICGS/Bowhead’s mission, capabilities, and achievements across all business sectors.
  • Provide high-level communications and marketing counsel to executives, senior managers, and project teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on communication strategy, messaging, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support internal communications initiatives that foster employee engagement, awareness, and alignment across all subsidiaries.
  • Lead communications planning and message development for major announcements, organizational initiatives, and strategic priorities.
  • Provide media training and coaching for executives and subject-matter experts preparing for interviews, conferences, or public engagements.

Media Relations & Public Affairs

  • Build and maintain relationships with trade and industry media, as well as local, state, and national outlets.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, statements, and media advisories highlighting contract wins, community impact, and corporate milestones.
  • Coordinate interviews and media responses to ensure consistency, accuracy, and professionalism.
  • Support corporate communications during crisis situations, ensuring timely and coordinated messaging.
  • Promote UICGS/Bowhead’s contributions to federal customers, shareholder communities, and Alaska Native economic development.

Marketing & Brand Management

  • Plan, develop, and manage marketing campaigns that highlight UICGS/Bowhead capabilities, contract successes, and workforce excellence.
  • Oversee traditional advertising and promotional efforts including print, radio, sponsorships, and trade show collateral.
  • Ensure all marketing and communications materials reflect UICGS/Bowhead brand standards, voice, and visual identity.
  • Collaborate with designers, writers, and vendors to produce effective marketing content that supports business development and corporate outreach.

Digital Communications

  • Manage and grow the organization’s digital presence, including websites, social media channels, and digital advertising.
  • Oversee content strategy, writing, editing, and publication of website materials that support customer, partner, and recruitment engagement.
  • Plan and execute digital ad campaigns across Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google Ads to promote awareness, thought leadership, and hiring initiatives.
  • Monitor analytics, track performance metrics, and use insights to refine content and strategy across digital platforms. 

Content Development & Editorial Oversight

  • Research, write, and edit content for internal and external audiences, including newsletters, executive messages, website updates, press releases, articles, and marketing collateral.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar that coordinates major communication and marketing activities across the organization.
  • Uphold Associated Press (AP) style and company style guidelines to ensure all written materials are clear, accurate, and consistent.
  • Review and approve content developed by others to ensure alignment with corporate messaging and brand standards.

Stakeholder & Shareholder Engagement

  • Support communications and storytelling that highlight UIC’s shareholder impact, Alaska Native heritage, and contributions to Arctic Slope communities.
  • Collaborate with UIC Corporate Communications to align messaging and initiatives across the enterprise.
  • Develop content and materials that strengthen relationships with shareholders, employees, and community partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of eight to ten (8–10) years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, including experience supporting government contracting, professional services, or related industries.
  • Proven success developing and executing integrated communication and marketing strategies for diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with mastery of AP style and corporate editorial standards.
  • Strong experience managing media relations, crafting key messages, and supporting executive communications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both digital and traditional marketing channels.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Insights) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively across a matrixed organization.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Alaska Native Corporations, their mission, and shareholder relations.
  • Experience communicating with federal agencies, contracting officers, and industry partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience leading vendor relationships and cross-functional marketing initiatives.
  • Understanding of public affairs, community engagement, and corporate social responsibility communications.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check. Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
