Cargo Equipment Operator - Seagoing:   UIC, Bowhead Transport seeks a seasonal (April – October), experienced, Cargo Equipment Operator to facilitate the loading and offloading of cargo from trucks and barges in several ports of call including Seattle WA and a variety of locations in Alaska. Cargo Equipment Operator will be a land-based position operating primary wheeled loaders but also a variety of other heavy equipment.  Operator will be responsible for coordinating the safe loading and offloading of trucks, barges and landing craft. Work with a team of local operators to maintain operational and regulatory compliance status of local municipal water and sewer utility systems. Water-Wastewater Operator aka Utilities System Specialist (USS) Operator will rotate in and out of each of the seven villages on North Slope, where populations range from 250 to 1000 residents. Work schedule will be 10 hours daily at a minimum, with longer days to meet repair and call out needs. Summer water pumping will be 12 hour days for approximately 3 calendar months. Rotation schedule will be 3 weeks on (23 days), 3 weeks off (19 days). $65 a day per diem is provided. The USS will be staying in provided local housing (no camp) Travel from/to Anchorage, AK or Fairbanks, AK to the villages are paid by employer - all other travel expenses are responsibility of the employee. The USS will report directly to the Field Operations Lead, or to the Project Manager when the Field Operations Lead is unavailable.   Equipment preventative maintenance and repairs will be required. This will include directing or accomplishing the excavation and repair of buried pipes in arctic conditions, and repair of individual residential and commercial service connections. The USS will be expected to maintain, clean and organized the Water and Wastewater plants. Maintain daily reporting to the central office in Utqiaġvik. Report emergency incidents when they occur. Communicate system issues to engineers. Keep daily water and wastewater logs on the Lotus Notes software. Prepare and send wastewater samples on a timely basis for monthly discharge monitoring reports. These are municipal sites and systems; they are not industrial. The USS must be able to interface with the public, maintain a professional demeanor, and work with municipal employees to maintain utility service. Cooking Duties include; preparing home style meals for crew members and occasional guests of the vessel.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF AB/OS DECKHAND � Good seaman skills including ability and knowledge to proper vessel line handling; tying, throwing, clean, coiled, and stowed properly � Knowledge of vessel security and emergency procedures for duties as assigned by vessel master or mate � Other duties as assigned by vessel master or mate � Adheres to Company Polices, USCG, and Environmental Regulations � Representing the organization to guest, customers, the public, government, and other external sources ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF COOK � Over all responsible for daily sanitation, inventory, and up keep of equipment for galley area; lockers and storerooms � Serve three balanced meals per day to crew, and occasionally guest � Must be able to follow recipes, and able to develop recipes when improvising is necessary � Sanitation and safety compliant, to ensure that every precaution is taken to prevent contamination � Responsible for requisitioning and preparing, production, and presentation of all meals. Ensuring that the dining areas, salad, dessert, beverages, and condiments are set prior to the beginning of each meal, and ensuring sanitation standards and personal hygiene are maintained at all times � Provisions management, once they are delivered to galley, including ordering and returning unused food items to the bulk storeroom, properly stored and labeled   KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE: � Knowledge of health code, proper food handling, preparation, cooking and storage temperatures, safety procedures for conduct in the galley � Communication and writing skills required � Strong interpersonal/team skills and the proven ability to often deal with situations where immediate low-level satisfactory resolution of issues must be achieved � Proficient user of computer systems, with the ability to utilize MS software applications in a Windows environment � Imperative to this position, the successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication skills and a positive management style that builds trust with clients and crew members
